October 26, 2010

On tonight once again our Hattiesburg (PACE) Site experienced some techinal difficulties, and it took us about 30 plus minutes before we were able to see some of the things the presenterswere discussing concerning their Emerging Tech Sowcase. On tonight the three presenters (the three groups) were as follows: Sandra Hilbert and Sharetha Bullock informed the class how we could make a moving using Microsoft live Movie Maker. They informed us how we would go about getting our videos and photos onto our computer, which was Step One. Then they informed us in Step Two how we could edit our project, and in Step Three which was their last step, they informed us how to go about publishing our movie on to the web.

The second presenters (Diana McClendon and Sharon Hall) informed the class how we could go about using FACEBOOK. First they gave us a history of Facebook, then they informed us of how we would go about logging in. They informed us that the actual cost of Facebook is free, but that in order to post an Ad on Facebook, it could cost from $25 to $30,000 plus dollars. They also informed us of what is really needed in order to post pictures and other information. They went in to deatail concerning what skills would be required to use Facebook when it comes to actually using Facebook in the classroom. They said that when it comes to the classroom Facebnook would be used so students would basically get to know other students. But they stated that this is not somethng they would recommend that students use in the classroom, because they felt it could be too tempting for the students to use it in other inappropriate areas. I learned that in order for someone to be on facebook they should be at least 13 years of age.

Emma Powell did not present on last week as scheduled, and she presented on tonight. Her presentation on tonight was discussing on how we would go about using oovoo for video chat, sending files, and recording with your webcam. She went through all the steps, and she contacted her niece (Nicole). She experienced a few problems, but she did go through the steps.

According to the agenda for tonight we were suppose to have another presentation on how "Engrade Help Teachers", by Leveta Woodberry and Adrienne Mcdowell, but I think they may have been the students from the Amite Site who were experiencing some problems getting to class because of a very bad accident Dr. Kang discussed on tonight about "Standards". However, I had put all this information on my blog on last week. Please note I was out ill on last week, so I just assumed from the information that I received via e-mail that was addressed on last week.

On tonight Dr. Kang asked us to address two questions, and they were as follows:

                                                               QUESTIONS

                       *    "How might ISTE Standards influence our classroom"?

Personally I think because it gives access to technology as well as to other resources, it definitely assists in meeting the educational equity of students who make be diagnosed with what is referred to as "Special Needs", and by doing so this would be a form of quality instruction through technology.

                        *    "How does the use of computer and internet influence a
                                 teacher's pedagogical practices"?

Personally I think the use of a computer and internet has a significant influence, and it plays a
GREAT part in a teacher's pedagogical practices. Because for example as Ms. McClendon and Ms. Hall discussed during their presentation said that Facebook could be used a social network for ALL type of activities. So although they did recommend it because everybody is entitled to their own opinion, they NEVER said that it couldn't be used. So this (FACEBOOK) could be one form of pedagogical practice through the use of computer/internet that a teacher could utilize. Another form of pedagogical practice that a teacher could use through the use of computer/internet could be from what Ms. Emma Powell discussed in her prersentation on tonight concerning "OOOVOO". In her presentation she informed us how this form of technology could be used in the classroom for conferences with parents, to share information concerning the students' work with the parents, to use as an after-school tool to help assist a student in need of extra help,
and it could also be used as a way to let Guest Speakers give lectures.
